What is Yomari?
Yomari is a food prepared in the Newar community. It is made during Yomari Punhi (full moon of December-January), and it is actually a kind of rice dumpling with filling inside and then steamed or fried.
This Newari cuisine is eaten as a snack mostly, and it has been said that this food goes back hundreds of years.
It is traditionally prepared, and children enjoy the sweet Yomari very much during Yomari Punhi, but it may also be prepared on other special occasions like birthdays and baby showers.
It is made with rice flour dough stuffed with chaku (black treacle, molasses), and is not only good for taste, but also it has a great energy value.
Also, this Newari cuisine is available in Newars at any time; that’s why it may be called as evergreen food of the Newar community.

How to make Yomari?
1. Add rice flour to a bowl.
2. Add chaku (black treacle, molasses) to a bowl.
3. Add enough water to make a thick dough and stir well to combine all ingredients together.
4. Divide the dough into portions and make Yomari balls. The ball should be big enough so that it can be stuffed with chaku (black treacle, molasses).
5. It has to be served hot while its outer covering is crispy and is filled with chaku (black treacle, molasses).
You can either steam Yomari or fry Yomari.
STEAMING:
1. Grease the steamer plate with oil and place the balls on it.
2. Steam Yomari for 10-12 minutes until it is cooked and its outer covering is crispy.
3. It can be served hot with honey or syrup; however, is prepared in the Newar community, and is served with Chaku (black treacle, molasses).
FRYING:
1. Firstly, heat oil in a pan and fry Yomari balls until it is golden brown in color.
